Learning Outcomes of The Course Unit : 1) Understanding of machining
2) Comprensive of Mercant, Kienze, Timme and Ernst cutting mechanic theories
3) Ability to determine the tool life relation with Taylor, Krononberg ve Gilbert, and able to apply these theories
4) Tool materials ans selection, Able to select tool selection, and to calculate the cutting forces, and to understand these techics.
5) Able to modelling of cutting temperatures and forces and able to calculate
6) Able to characterize the tool wear types and cutting forces
7) Understanding of the cutting forces and temperatures affecting the machinin quality in turning, milling, drilling, grinding and other methods.

Course Contents : Cutting mechanics in machining, Cutting forces calculation according to Merchant and Kienze theories, Krononberg, Ernts, Gilbert, Timme theories, tool life determining and Taylor's serials, and other Krononberg, Gilbert tool life theories, effect of these theories to tool selection, Some important parameters for the tool selection and tool wear, some theories for the cutting temperature calculation, Chip contact lenght and friction, friction coefficent in cutting, effect of coating on the friction in cutting, Cutting forces and temperatures calculation methods in turning, millin, drilling, grinding and honing and other machining metdods, machining quatility and syrface roughness, machining costs, tool geometry.

Course Goals : 1) To understand of machining,
2) To give information about Merchant and Kienze theories to students.
3) To comprensive of calculation for cutting forces according to these theories
4) Comprehensive of Krononberg, Ernst, Gilbert, Timme Theories,
5) To determine the tool life and understanding the Taylor's Serials, Krononberg and gilbert tool life tendencies
6) To iInvestigate to about the effect of these theories on cutting parameters selection, tool seceltion and tool wear
7) To give mathematical theories about cutting temperature calculations.
8) To give information about the cutting forces and temperatures affecting the machinin quality in turning, milling, drilling, grinding and other methods.
8) To give information about surface and dimension quality, machining costs.
Course Aims : Understanding of machining basics, cutting mechanic, and to give Taylor, Krononberg, Merchant, Gilbert, Timme theories. To give information the chip removal theory, cutting mechanic, orthogonal and oblique cutting strategy, machining operations, tool life and tool wear, selecting of machine tool, cutting tool and cutting parameters to students.
