General Information : The Geology Department was founded as a branch of the Engineering & Arch. Faculty of Akdeniz University in 1983. It was joined to Süleyman Demirel University in 1992. It has four main sub divisions as general geology, mineralogy-petrography, mining and applied geology. 23 teaching members work in the department.  
Qualification Awarded : Geology Engineer  
Level of Qualification : First Cycle (Bachelor?s Degree).A graduate geology engineer has the following adequacies: Having basic science knowledge; students can recognize minerals and different originated rock types in both field and laboratory works, and search their scientific and economic values; They bring out earth history with microscopic and megalospheric index fossils, give rock?s age and environment, interpret environment origin with different geological data, separate rock units and interpret their relations; They prepare geological maps, and interpret structural and tectonic characteristics; They search fossil fuels, metallic mines and industrial raw materials, use them for country economy and management workers; They learn and interpret geophysical methods at mining explorations, engineering and underground water researches; They determine rock and soil engineering properties, have plans with their related works and interpret the results; They product engineering data that will be used in engineering projects such as dam, tunnel, bridge, road and ground, put out the problems with discussions and to get solutions; They search, interpret and operate underground water resources, investigate human-being effects to environment and make scientific studies on the matter, have their results and put out solutions for decreasing of artificial harmful wastes; They make plans for drilling to mining exploration, engineering structures and underground water and evaluate their results. They get business works and researches on every kind of natural structural materials;
They combine interdisciplinary works, and become leader of the group. They have professional, social and scientific ethic value. They have an ability of research and development facilities. They get scientific projects and AR-GE Works. They evaluate and interpret the results; They are innovative, promoters and specialists at all professional development of law (such as environment, petroleum, mining, reconstructions, geothermal, underground, coast line); They have ability of translation at a foreign language orally and written.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations : National qualifications frameworks may contain levels (or intermediate qualifications) within the three Bologna cycles (e.g. a short cycle within the first cycle). These levels allow institutions to structure a particular qualification and regulate progression through the qualification. Qualification Requirements and Regulations are enacted by YÖK (The Council Of Higher Education) in Turkey.

Aims Of Programme : The objective of the Geological Engineering Program is to educate the candidates who will be able to identify, formulate and solve geological engineering problems with a thorough awareness of professional, ethical, environmental, social and economical responsibilities. The aims of the program are to produce qualified BSc, MSc and PhD degrees having capability providing innovative solutions to geological engineering problems, conducting advanced scientific, economic, engineering studies and explorations for the public and private sectors.

Program Learning Outcomes
