General Information : The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established officially, accrording to the Law of 1418, on February 21, 1976 as a second department of Isparta State Engineering and Architecture Academy and began teaching in fall 1976 in a 3-storey building of Gulkent Middle School in the city of Isparta at the Mediterranean Region of Turkey. Isparta State Engineering and Architecture Academy joined to Akdeniz University in the city of Antalya on July 20, 1982 according to the law of 2547 and its name changed to Isparta Faculty of Engineering. With the establishment of Süleyman Demirel University in the city of Isparta on July 11, 1992, Isparta Faculty of Engineering was linked to Suleyman Demirel University under the name of Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Currently, the Department of Mechanical Engineering is located on the main campus (west) of Suleyman Demirel University, which is placed on the foot of the hill outside Isparta and has 7 professor, 5 associate professor, 8 assistant professor, 5 research assistant, 5 personnel (4 technicians and 1 clerical staff), and more than 600 undergraduate students. MSc and PhD programs are also available for gradute studies in the department. Mechanical Engineering is an engineering discipline that involves the application of principles of physics for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines. Mechanical engineers are also expected to understand and be able to apply basic concepts from chemistry, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, and physics. Most mechanical engineering programs include several semesters of calculus, as well as advanced mathematical concepts which may include differential equations and partial differential equations, linear and modern algebra, and differential geometry, among others.  
Qualification Awarded : Bachelor?s diploma in Mechanical Engineering  
Level of Qualification : First Cycle (Bachelor?s Degree).The Mechanical Engineering Department is in the first stage of higher education in engineering degree with 240 ECTS credits . Mechanical Engineering with a Bachelor's degree is granted with successfully completed the program requirements.  
Specific Admission Requirements : High School Diploma and Central examination of OSYM (Y-OSS, SAY-2 Score)  
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, non-formal and informal) : Department of Mechanical Engineering accepts students from the other universities including Mechanical Engineering Program.  
Qualification Requirements and Regulations : National qualifications frameworks may contain levels (or intermediate qualifications) within the three Bologna cycles (e.g. a short cycle within the first cycle). These levels allow institutions to structure a particular qualification and regulate progression through the qualification. Qualification Requirements and Regulations are enacted by YÖK (The Council Of Higher Education) in Turkey.  
Profile of The Programme : The objectives of the department are to offer high quality undergraduate education in mechanical engineering department, to provide students with excellent research opportunities and to teach students design, manufacturing theories and human resource management.  
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples : The field of mechanical engineering can be thought of as a collection of many mechanical disciplines. Several of these subdisciplines which are typically taught at the undergraduate level are listed below: 1. In engineering offices as a design engineer, 2. In Research and Development (R&D) offices as a research engineer, 3. In manufacturing industries as an engineer who is responsible for planning, manufacturing and quality-control, 4. In food and medicine industries as a heat-processing engineer, 5. In energy related industries as an engineer who is responsible for design, operation, planning, maintenance and logistics, 6. In textile industry as an engineer who is responsible for design, planning and maintenance, 7. In service industries as a service engineer,  
Access to Further Studies : To include dual-degree or lateral degree multi-disciplinary areas like Textile Engineering, Operation Research Engineering, Ghemistry Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Material and Metalurgy Engineering, Airplane Engineering, Ship Engineering, and Automotive Engineering if it includes enough conditions.  
Aims Of Programme : Aims of Department of Mechanical Engineering is to prepare mechanical engineer who is 1. having basic engineering skills or problem-solving and lifelong learning; 2. having sufficient grounding in basic science, mathematics and mechanical engineering to perform effectively, over time, in industry or other employment, 3. able to pinpoint and define engineering problems in the field of mechanical engineering, 4. able to employ necessary techniques, hardware, and communication tools for modern engineering applications, able to solve problems through analytical thinking in their own or related fields, 5. able to work in a multi-disciplinary environment, 6. able to follow and contribute to the developments in their own field recognizing the significance of lifelong learning, 7. able to communicate effectively, having strong ethical and professional responsibility and adhering to quality, 8. able to take individual responsibility and to work as a part of a team.  
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : Midterm exam(%40) and Final exam(%60)  
Graduation Requirements : All required courses need to be completed successfully for graduation in seven years with minimum GPA of 2.00. Summer practice of 45 work-days is also required for graduation.  
Mode of Study (full-time, part-time, e-learning etc.) : Full-time  

Program Learning Outcomes
1 To have sufficient knowledge of mathematics, science, and basic engineering and be able to use that knowledge in the applications of mechanical engineering
2 To have:knowledge of chemistry and calculus-based physics with depth in at least one
3 To have knowledge of advanced mathematics through multivariate calculus and differential equations; to be familiar with statistics and linear algebra
4 To understand why he/she learns what he/she learns and have multiple opportunities to provide that during his/her university education
5 To have knowledge about the modern engineering tools, techniques and software including information technologies necessary for mechanical engineering applications, as well as to use some of them in those applications; to be able to develop required tools, techniques and software if necessary; to be able to design and conduct experiments for engineering problems, as well as to analyze and interpret data
6 To learn and be able to use a variety of means for visual, oral and written communications, to learn at least one foreign language to be able to prepare and present presentations for engineering applications
7 To recognize the need and importance for life-long learning, to be able to reach the required knowledge, follow the new developments in science and technology and keep himself/herself up-to-date
8 To be aware of environmental, social, political, cultural, ethical, health and safety issues of this century especially in mechanical engineering, to have an ability to solve engineering problems to meet the specifications within environmental, social, political, cultural, ethical, health and safety constraints
9 To have knowledge about the applications in business life such as risk analysis, assessment and management with project management, change management, to be aware of entrepreneurship, modernism and sustainable development
10 To be able to work both as individuals and as members of single-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary teams, and to lead the teams if necessary
11 To be able to identify, define, solve and present engineering problems in thermal and mechanical systems areas of mechanical engineering, to work professionally in both areas, to select and apply proper analytical and modelling techniques and modern design methods for new designs
