Course Contents : This module is concerned with solid-liquid separation (dewatering) processes, movement of solid particles in a fluid medium, settling theories, free settling, hindered settling, liquid flow regimes, terminal velocity, mineral suspension stability, Kynch sedimentation theory, coagulation and flocculation, thickener, thickener components and functions, design of thickeners, calculations of thickener area and height, filtration, pressure filtration and filters, centrifugal filtration, drying.

Course Goals : Determining the characteristics of the mineral particles in a liquid medium

Understanding properties of flocculants and coagulants
Selection and sizing of thickeners and filters
Course Aims : The aim of this course is to ensure that the students will be introduced to the understanding of physical and engineering aspects of solid-liquid separation processes and applications, and importance of solid-liquid separation in mineral processing.
